Dr. Earl Crane (Founder/CEO) has advised the President of the United States as the Director for Federal Cybersecurity Policy on the White House National Security Council, Wall Street executives, and multiple Fortune 100 corporations on their cyber defensive strategies. Earl led the implementation of the Department of Homeland Security’s information security strategy, and has taught these techniques to hundreds of cybersecurity masters students and executives at Carnegie Mellon University. He was elected to the (ISC)2 Board of Directors in 2017. He holds a Ph.D. from George Washington University, a Masters of Information System Management at Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.


Brad Weinert (COO/CFO) has over 30 years of professional management experience in a variety of high-tech market segments —including mobile computing, wireless networking, telecommunications, TCP/IP software, computer hardware and RFID and Analytics for healthcare. He is a take-charge executive leader experienced in taking businesses to the “next level.” Brad is the former President and COO of Awarepoint Corp., former President and COO and Acting CEO of Novatel Wireless, and former Chairman of the Board, NexAira Corp.


Jason Bevis (Chief Technology Officer) has extensive experience in both security risk and automation engineering. Jason has both advised and held CISO rolls during his 20+ year career. He has also worked for top security companies such as FireEye-Mandiant, Foundstone-McAfee, and KPMG. Jason brings a unique quality of both in-depth security knowledge and product engineering that enables Emergent to build best in class security risk products.


Joel Benge (Risk Evangelist) is an award-winning communicator with roots that span from the humanities to cybersecurity. Early dalliances with the entertainment industry (including Nickelodeon, video game development, and pioneering new media) gave way to hands-on industry experience with network security and cybersecurity risk management. Joel served seven years with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as the principal manager for enterprise cybersecurity communications.


Michael Grant (Director of Development) has 25+ years of commercial experience in Systems Architecture and Solutions Design, Vision Realization, and Management Consulting. He has worked for the University of Maryland and Sun Microsystems, has run his own internet services company, and has been involved in multiple start-ups. He helped build parts of the internet, working on standards, and is a proponent of open-source software, security and encryption.


Rob Donnelly (Director Enterprise Sales) has 20+ years experience in enterprise software sales & business development focusing on Cyber Security, Enterprise Risk, Governance & Compliance solutions. He has worked for global security companies such as CA Technologies & BAE Systems as well as early stage VC-funded startups.


Hannah Britton (Business Coordinator) – Hannah Britton is a trusted and experienced business manager, bringing years of experience in digital systems and virtual teaming processes to Emergent. Hannah studied accounting and data analytics, and has a passion for data clarity as a foundation for decision-making. Her warmth and professional courtesy enables our distributed team to bridge the physical divide, ensuring we have the latest training and support to appropriately use remote workforce technology to facilitate effective and efficient communication between global team members.


Murray Schwartz (Business and Legal) combines over 20 years of experience in the corporate area including 15 years as a chief operating officer of a $700,000,000 media company. He is a partner with Warshaw Burstein, LLC. and serves Emergent as its regular corporate counsel—providing advice on myriad issues, including financing, intellectual property, employment, sales and operations, mergers and acquisitions.



Mark Clancy (Advisor) was managing director and CISO, Technology Risk Management at The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), a position established in January 2012. He was also appointed Chief Executive Officer of Soltra, a joint venture between FS-ISAC and DTCC. He joined DTCC in 2009 as Corporate Information Security Officer. Before joining DTCC, he was executive vice president of Information Technology Risk at Citigroup.


Chris Kenworthy (Advisor) has 20+ years’ experience in the cybersecurity industry. He was VP/Managed Services for RSA, EVP/Sales at Foundstone, and SVP/Enterprise at McAfee. His career has also been associated with VC-funded startups in their initial phase, fast-growing companies, and leading cybersecurity manufacturers. In addition to running go to market, marketing, sales, and business development in more than five start-ups, Chris serves as Board Director or Advisor to several other start-ups.


Joe Robinson (Advisor) is the former Chief Information Officer, Executive Vice President and Director of Information Technology and Operations of Fifth Third Bank. He also served as the line of business Chief Information Officer in General Electric Co.’s insurance business, GE Insurance.


Professor Julie Ryan (Advisor) has been working in the field of information security for over 30 years. Starting out as an intelligence officer in the US Air Force, she has tackled problems in the military, in government, in industry, and in academia.  She has taught and directed research in information security, cyberwarfare, systems dynamics, and analytics. Her research interests focus on the challenges associated with engineering security in heterogeneous systems.


Jan Smith (Advisor) brings over 20 years of strategic cybersecurity and technology startup experience, from building world-class technology teams to planning and overseeing the successful execution of corporate growth strategies resulting in strategic partnerships, acquisition or explosive global post-IPO growth. Her innate talent for executive communication and innovative disruption has led to her leadership roles in Zoeticx Inc. (co-founder), and Foundstone Inc. (acquired by McAfee/Intel) and Electronics for Imaging (Nasdaq: EFII).


John Ticer (Advisor) is a proven executive who has launched multiple successful B2B software offerings over the last 25 years for organizations including IBM; NeuStar, 2005 IPO of the Year; and several companies that were acquired for significant shareholder return.
